Other information A coupé designed by Paolo Martin at Pininfarina. The design of the classy 130 coupé, with its simple yet extremely taut lines, was to set the standard for the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 and then 400, as well as the Peugeot 604. The Fiat 130 was remarkably designed around a specific engine that had nothing to do with the Dino V6. The powerplant was designed at Fiat by Aurelio Lampredi and it is said that the Commendatore had insisted on it having a single carburetor so as not to overshadow the Ferraris... Not really surprising when you know Lampredi designed one of Ferrari's V12s...! It made a bewitching noise and was incomparably pleasant to drive, a heavenly match to the special suspension that would be fitted to the Fiat Dino 2400. The 130 coupé would mark Fiat's last attempt to retain a foothold at the top of the market, after the 2300S and Dino coupes, but the 80s would prove difficult for the brand which had been number one in Europe throughout the 60s and 70s... If only they'd had the modesty and intuition to call it the Lancia Flaminia ...

Just under 4000 examples of this magnificent coupé were produced, of which only 300 or 800, depending on the source, were fitted with the excellent dogleg ZF mechanical gearbox, while all the others were fitted with a 3-speed automatic gearbox, which is no tribute to the engine's vitality. This example, which comes from Italy, is in very fine original condition. A wolf in sheep's clothes!
